Anyone know where I can get a balanced and calibrated set of Fralin pups in HSS configuration? I want something like Blues Specials for the neck and middle and a PAF sort of the thing for the bridge. I called Fralin and the ditzy girl referred me to their dealer page.  I called a couple of dealers and they said, "Well Fralin doesn't have anything like that..."  Yeah, I'm not taking that for an answer.

Anyway, I just bought yet another guitar I don't need--a 2005 Strat Deluxe with stock everything. I want to rip those pups out and put the good stuff in there...

I dunno,  I've got an 04 strat deluxe...and I tore out the s1...but left the SCNs running on a regular 5-way with an orange drop on the tone control (Eric Johnson style)...and I like the pups now....much better without that damn s1 in there...

I think what I'm going to do is just see about becoming a Fralin dealer. The dealers I've talked to so far just shrug and say they don't come that way. I can't figure out why this is rocket science...

I remember you talking about that guitar and searching for pickups a while back.  I'm glad they worked out for you, but I'm a little surprised you didn't try the poor man's Fralins at $100.  I promise you Fender's Fat 50s will kick the SCN's tail.  I have them in one of my fav guitars.  DonR played my Strat with Fralins and kindly broke a string.  So I handed him my Strat with FF50s and he liked them better.

I'm almost tempted to order another set of those and put a WCR Crossroads in the bridge position, then adjust the heights until they more or less balance out.

I need a good HSS recomendation for blues/rock. Fralin's are cool but a little pricey for me. Same for Rio Grand's

I've been desperate to switch my strat from SSS to HSS.  I know they don't sound the same....but if I want a single coil bridge sound, the tele gets priority around here...As a result, the bridge on my strat gets neglected, big time....

On top of that, I want a Humbucker in this strat...so I can do the VH-style stuff....

The problem is finding a humbucker that will do the trick.  Year's ago I had a Seymour Duncan JB that was my favorite pickup of the time...the pickup's long gone, but I'm tempted to try it again...the problem is that I believe the JB will overpower an single coil I put in the guitar.

So I might just convert this guitar to the fender lonestar spec, meaning putting in a SD 59 with a few custom shop fender pups....

Maybe a fat 50s neck and middle, paired up with a Duncan 59 would do the trick...

FYI, the Duncan 59s are not potted (or are barely potted), so they can be on the noisy side.

I think I'm going to end up trying a pair of Fralin Blues Special SCs combined with an 8K Fralin humbucker.  I might be able to get them to balance.  If not, there's always eBay

I called Lindy yesterday and had an enlightening conversation with him about pups.  Actually, I did go ahead and open a dealer account with him, so look for Fralin pups to show up on my site soon.

Now back to my dilemma...  He said it works perfectly well to use a pair of SCs like Blues Specials with an 8K or 8.5K humbucker.  He says you can match the output by adjusting the pickup heights and even gave me some cool wiring ideas.  Very nice guy, that Lindy.

So I think that's the way I'm going with this guitar.

I borrowed a set from a friend when I was on the great PAF hunt.  I A/B'd them (as well as you can in the same guitar that is) with WCRs, Fralins, and Gibson Bursts.  IMHO, the WCRs were tops, the Voodoos second, then the Fralins, with the Gibsons bringing up the rear.  Of course, this is very subjective territory, so other people will think differently.

In the end, I bought the WCR Crossroads for my LP DC semi hollow and traded for a set of WCR Fillmores for my LP SW Studio.  But I'm a Fralin man all the way for SCs.

Well, I decided to get really experimental.  I ordered a set of pups from WCR--his SR single coils for the neck and middle and a Darkburst for the bridge.  I haven't installed them yet as I am waiting for new pots to show up.

I don't know if this is the final solution, but it is a place to start.  I have a feeling I'll like the Darkburst (although I wish it were F spaced), but I'm not sure about the SRs.  If not, I can always replace them with Fralins and be happy.
