hi im new here w/ a question. awhile back i put new speakers in my marshall AVT cab and wired it 4 ohms to match the marshall solid state head i was using at the time. Now i am running a 50watt ampeg vl-501 on top of it set at 4 ohms (it can be set at 4,8,16). my sound now seems lost in the room w/o a lot of high end, other guitar players amps have been fender deluxe and peavey VTM (i think). both of these amps just cut right over the top of me. I can easily turn up the volume but it goes ear splitting load quickly and annoying to others. If i rewired at 16 ohms would this make a difference in sound, or at least cut through better, i love the tone but would like to hear it in a jam situation.

oh yeah, i only plan on running as a halfstack so am not worried about having switching the wiring later

Rewiring it might make a difference, but I kind of doubt it will have much impact.  One of the benefits you get is using all the windings in the OT instead of just a third of them, but people argue about whether that really matters.

I imagine the difference you are hearing has more to do with matching the speakers to the amp.  Does the head sound better through other peoples' cabs?
